8 Common Mistakes Women Make with Makeup

1. Obvious lip liner. Just outlining your outer lip area and then throwing on a lighter colored lip gloss is not flattering. Not only will your gloss fade away, but it will also leave you with nothing but a lip liner ring. When using lip liner, you want to outline the outer lip area AND THEN fill in the rest of your lip with the same lip liner. Now that you have done this, you may apply your lipstick or gloss. You also want to make sure that you do not use lip liner above your natural lip line - another big time no no.

2. Matching foundation to the back of your hand. Let me ask you this - is your face located on the back of your hand? No. Whoever suggested this to you is not your friend. Trying matching your foundation to your jawline area as that will give you the best result and also makes sure you will not have a foundation line around the outer corners of your face.

3. Over plucking eyebrows and filling them in using an unnatural shape. Example below...

Just say no to this. Pretty please! You want something more like this...

4. Obvious concealer. Choose a concealer that matches your foundation or that is SLIGHTLY lighter than your foundation. I repeat - just slightly. Choosing a concealer several shades lighter than your foundation does nothing but give you an opposite raccoon effect and draws attention to the areas you are trying to hide.

5. Putting bronzer on your whole face. Bronzer is meant to be used in a "light dusting" kind of way. Remember this - C.C.N.F. This means chin, cheeks, nose, and forehead. You don't need bronzer anywhere else. If you would like for your face to look tan, use a sunless tanner, otherwise your face will just look dirty and unnatural.

6. Applying too much blush and in the wrong areas of your face. They last thing you want is for your face to look so blushed that you look sunburnt. Sweep your brush across your blush palette taking care not to use a heavy hand. Next, you will want to apply to the apples of your cheeks. The easiest way to make sure you are doing this properly is to smile while applying. The lifted parts of your cheeks are the apples.

7. Clumpy mascara. Using too much mascara makes your lashes look heavy and unnatural. Remember the whole point of makeup is to accentuate your natural features, not draw negative attention to them. Just one or two coats of your favorite mascara will do the trick as you will have beautiful, "Look at me. I'm gorgeous!" lashes all day!

8. Using the wrong shade of foundation. This is probably one of the most common mistakes made by ladies. Some want to go a shade darker than their natural skin tone because they don't want to look washed out or they want to appear more tan. And believe it or not, some want to go lighter because they don't want to appear to dark. If you don't listen to anything I've taught you thus far at least take the following little tidbit to heart: whether you are a porcelain beauty, a golden goddess, or a velvety dark chocolate lady, you are perfect just the way you are! Embrace it! Don't try to disguise it. You want a foundation that fades seamlessly into your face so that you match the rest of your body. Its that simple!
